| Description | Carrageenan (kappa-Carrageenan) is a naturally occurring polysaccharide extracted from edible red seaweed species. Carrageenan exhibits anticoagulant, antithrombotic, antiviral, antitumor, and immunomodulatory activities. Carrageenan is extensively utilized in biomedical and immunological research involving inflammation, coagulation pathways, viral interaction mechanisms, and polysaccharide-based biomaterial development. |
| In vitro | ι-Carrageenan, λ-Carrageenan, and κ-Carrageenan (0.5–200 μg/mL, 15 d) inhibit HAV antigen expression in PLC/PRF/5 cells in a concentration-dependent manner, with ι-Carrageenan displaying the highest potency with ED50 value of 2.5 μg/mL, followed by λ-Carrageenan (ED50 = 4.5 μg/mL) and κ-Carrageenan (ED50 = 100.3 μg/mL); concomitantly, all three Carrageenans also suppress HAV replication and infectivity in PLC/PRF/5 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. [1] ι-Carrageenan, λ-Carrageenan and κ-Carrageenan (20–1000 μg/mL, 3–15 d) show no significant cytotoxicity at concentrations up to 200 μg/mL in PLC/PRF/5 cells. With respect to cytotoxicity, ι-Carrageenan and λ-Carrageenan exhibit higher cytotoxicity thresholds (cell viability CD50 >1000 μg/mL) than κ-Carrageenan, for which the cell viability CD50 is 732.1 μg/mL[1]. κ-Carrageenan and λ-Carrageenan (250-2500 μg/mL, 72 h) exhibit moderate concentration-dependent cytotoxicity against HeLa cells with IC50 value of 550.8 μg/mL and 475 μg/mL, respectively[2]. κ-Carrageenan (250-2500 μg/mL, 72 h) causes G2/M phase arrest in HeLa-FUCCI cells in a concentration-dependent manner, whereas λ-co does not change the distribution of cell cycle phases in HeLa-FUCCI cells[2]. κ-Carrageenan and λ-Carrageenan (250-2500 μg/mL, 72 h) hardly has significant cytotoxicity toward HUVEC cells at concentrations and do not increase HUVEC cell mortality[2]. |

For example, if the intended dosage is 10 mg/kg for animals weighing 20 g , with a dosing volume of 100 μL per animal, and a total of 10 animals are to be administered, using a formulation of 
10% DMSO+ 40% PEG300+ 5% Tween 80+ 45% Saline/PBS/ddH2O , the resulting working solution concentration would be 2 mg/mL.Dissolve 2 mg of the compound in 100 μL DMSO to obtain a stock solution at a concentration of 20 mg/mL . If the required concentration exceeds the compound's known solubility, please contact us for technical support before proceeding.
1) Add 100 μL of the DMSO stock solution to 400 µL PEG300 and mix thoroughly until the solution becomes clear.
2) Add 50 µL Tween 80 and mix well until fully clarified.
3) Add 450 µL Saline,PBS or ddH2O and mix thoroughly until a homogeneous solution is obtained.
